Cultivating Creativity and Community Through the Arts

There are many applause-worthy artistic endeavours by students throughout the school year. Below are some recent examples of achievements across the District.

Youth at 国产传媒 North Secondary听shared their spectacular performance of Mama Mia. With three shows, two casts, and incredible vocals, the students worked hard for months to launch it.

Burnaby South Secondary students have been for their performance of The SpongeBob Musical with a scope so large it practically rivals a Broadway show. It features a full pit orchestra, a cast of 50 student performers 鈥 including dancers and singers 鈥 as well as more than 80 students working behind the scenes in stagecraft. Given that SpongeBob takes place 鈥渦nder the sea,鈥 they鈥檝e been especially mindful of their environmental impact by using found, recycled and borrowed materials to build set pieces, props, and costumes. Children at Lakeview Elementary delighted audiences with their spring musical. Together, they brought to life their version of Mary Poppins Junior.听Getting the show launched was a collaborative endeavour with the help of families, the Parent Advisory Council and support from school staff.

The Fine Arts Night at Cariboo Hill Secondary featured a collection of student-created art for auction. It also showcased drama, dance and music performances by students in the Visual and Performing Arts Department.

国产传媒 Mountain Secondary students shone at the Student Council-led Late Night with Larry Talent Show. The winners 鈥 along with those who won similar competitions at other high schools in the District 鈥 will compete for top honours at the 国产传媒鈥檚 Got Talent finals at the end of April. Hosted by the District Student Advisory Council, the final competition will take place at the Michael J Fox Theatre.
